WORKSHOPS > Fall Photography in the Porkies

Wilderness First AidThe Porcupine Mountains State Park may contain the largest intact tract of old-growth forest in the Midwest. This wilderness where the shore of the “big lake” meets the mountains named for Erithizon dorsatum by the Ojibwa boasts 59,000 acres and over 90 miles of hiking trails to explore. Couple this with the fall color season and you’ve got a photographer’s paradise. Join photography instructor and guide Brian Parmeter for this 3-day intensive photography workshop that will take you beyond the realm of point-and-shoot.

This hands-on photography workshop geared toward beginner or intermediate photographers is designed to give you control of your photographic vision. Brian will teach the how and why of the technical and aesthetic aspects of how great photos are “made,” not taken. The topics covered will take you beyond the automated features of your digital or film camera. These include composition, exposure calculation (shutter-speed, aperture, ISO relationships), understanding light meters, basic filtering effects, and more. Evening campfire conversations will explore wilderness photography ethics and other areas of interest suggested by the group.

This workshop will use a rustic campground as a base camp for day hikes to photograph all that the landscape presents. Participants must provide their own camera with manual functions (shutter and aperture control, etc), camping gear and food. Directions, information, and meeting place at the Porkies (TBD) will be emailed to registered participants.
